[headlines] [headlines] Where Boeing's 737 Max 9 is in Operation Editor’s Note: Most, if not all, of these airplanes are leased or financed to the airlines. In the leased categories, insurance allegedly protects the lessor. Other responsibilities are often up to the court. As this info graphic shows, alongside Alaska and United, 7 other airlines are currently known to operate the 737 Max 9, with over 200 aircraft in operation as of January 2024, according to the travel industry news site. On Friday, January 5, the 'door plug', replacing a possible extra exit in the fuselage of a Boeing 737 Max 9 operated by Alaska Airlines, was ripped off shortly after take-off. The aircraft was supposed to be flying from Portland, Oregon, to Ontario airport, on the outskirts of Los Angeles. Luckily, there were no casualties and the plane made a successful emergency landing. A few days later, Alaska Airlines and United Airlines, the latter of which operates the world's largest fleet of the aircraft, announced that they had discovered loose bolts on several of their planes of the same model. These issues add to a growing list of damaging incidents and issues for the American manufacturer. Of particular significance, accidents in October 2018 in Indonesia and March 2019 in Ethiopia, caused by a faulty in-flight stabilization system, resulted in the deaths of almost 350 people. The two aircraft in question were Boeing 737 Max, albeit the Max 8 variant. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) issued an 'Emergency Airworthiness Directive' for all owners and operators of 737 Max 9 aircraft on January 6. In response, Boeing stated in a press release: "Safety is our top priority and we deeply regret the impact this event has had on our customers and their passengers. We agree with and fully support the FAA's decision to require immediate inspections of 737-9 airplanes with the same configuration as the affected airplane". Martin Armstrong, Statista

So check out our list for the best titles in his filmography. Love Story (1970): O’Neal became a star in this romantic box-office sensation, an adaptation of Erich Segal’s best-seller that made many a Seventies audience swoon. He plays Oliver Barrett IV, a privileged Harvard law student who meets Jenny Cavilleri (Ali McGraw), a working-class young woman studying music at Radcliffe College. Despite their vastly different backgrounds (as well as disapproval from Oliver’s blueblood father, played by classic Hollywood staple Ray Milland), the two fall in love and get married. While hoping to make it as a couple in New York, their bond is put to a severe test when Jenny is diagnosed with a terminal disease. Undeniably slick and predictable, Arthur Hiller’s blockbuster retains its appeal thanks in no small amount to the legitimate poignancy of O’Neal’s earnestness. What’s Up, Doc? (1972): Having put his personal spin on the thriller and the drama genres, Peter Bogdanovich takes on the screwball comedy with this delightful update of the classic “Bringing Up Baby,” which has O’Neal in the Cary Grant role. Set in San Francisco, it follows the madcap pandemonium that results when mixed-up luggage sends a group of characters into a tizzy. At the center is Howard (O’Neal), a stuffy musicologist who’s torn between his neurotic fiancée Eunice (Madeleine Kahn) and Judy (Barbra Streisand), an impulsive young woman who turns his life upside-down. Along for the ride are a socialite who’s lost her jewels, a mysterious man with government papers, and a group of thieves. With a supporting cast that includes Kenneth Mars and Austin Pendleton, this is a lightning-paced joy. Paper Moon (1973): O’Neal re-teamed with director Peter Bogdanovich in this crowd-pleasing period comedy, where he stars opposite his real-life daughter. Set in Kansas during the Depression, it follows the prickly bond between slick con-artist Moses Pray (O’Neal) and his estranged, nine-year-old daughter Addie (Tatum O’Neal, who scored a Best Supporting Actress Oscar). Though at first not relishing each other’s company, the two come to rediscover familial emotions in the most unlikely of places—in the middle of swindles and crooked schemes, with cops and bootleggers often after them. Filmed in flavorful black-and-white, the movie plays like an updated Shirley Temple caper from the 1930s, but with a tart charm all its own (thanks in no small part to a scene-stealing turn by Madeleine Kahn). Barry Lyndon (1975): Between “A Clockwork Orange” and “The Shining,” legendary director Stanley Kubrick directed this sumptuous period piece, which continues to grow as one of his most sublime achievements. Adapted from William Thackeray’s 19th-century novel, the sprawling story follows the ups and downs of the eponymous rogue (a brilliantly cast O’Neal) who, through the tides of destiny, ends up as part of the British court. As an unlikely nobleman, he meets a noblewoman (Marisa Berenson) and attempts to settle as a family man, a dream that ventures into tragedy. Using a jaundiced view and painterly details, Kubrick crafts a series of tableaux in which the characters seem overpowered by the beauty surrounding them. Though filmed through a frigid veneer, this masterpiece is one of the director’s most profoundly emotional works. The Driver (1978): Action master Walter Hill makes intriguing use of O’Neal’s soft-edged presence in this electrifying thriller, which takes an indelibly minimalist spin through nocturnal Los Angeles. O’Neal stars as The Driver, an enigmatic, monosyllabic underworld denizen who specializes in fast getaways for other criminals. His nemesis is The Detective (Bruce Dern), whose police grid is drawing tighter and tighter around him. The third side of this odd triangle is The Player (Isabelle Adjani), a beautiful young woman who becomes a witness to The Driver’s casino heist. As a taciturn romance blooms between them, The Detective resorts to increasingly deadly means to snag The Driver. Full of stylish, almost abstract set-pieces, Hill’s film often plays like an unofficial remake of Jean-Pierre Melville’s neo-noir classic “Le Samurai.” Fernando Croce is a nationally recognized film reviewer and has been contributing to Leasing News since 2008.
