[headlines] Leasing and Finance Industry Help Wanted [headlines] Get Ahead in Your Career, One Step at a Time
Career success is a journey, not a destination. It's a path filled with opportunities, challenges, and growth. While achieving your career goals may seem like a daunting task, the key to success lies in taking one step at a time. There are a few practical strategies and tips to help you advance in your career incrementally, ensuring that you stay motivated and on the right track. This is one step at a time, and hopefully you read what I have learned from those who have been successful in their career: Set Clear Goals: The first step in advancing your career is setting clear, achievable goals. These goals should be specific, measurable, and time-bound (SMART). Whether you're aiming for a promotion, a higher salary, or a change in job roles, having well-defined objectives will give you a sense of direction and purpose. Continuous Learning: The world is constantly evolving, and so are industries and job requirements. To stay relevant and get ahead, commit to lifelong learning. This can include taking courses, attending workshops, reading industry-related books and articles, and seeking mentorship. Embrace new technologies and trends to expand your skill set. Network Effectively: Building a strong professional network is crucial for career advancement. Attend industry events, join online forums and social media groups, and connect with colleagues and mentors. Networking can provide valuable insights, opportunities, and support when you need it most. Embrace Challenges: Don't shy away from challenges; instead, view them as opportunities for growth. Taking on new responsibilities, projects, or tasks outside your comfort zone can help you acquire new skills and showcase your abilities to your superiors. Be open to feedback and learn from your mistakes. Work on Soft Skills: Technical skills are essential, but soft skills are equally important. Develop your communication, leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. These skills are highly valued by employers and can set you apart from your peers. Seek Feedback: Regularly seek feedback from supervisors, colleagues, and mentors. Constructive criticism can help you identify areas for improvement and guide your career development. Don't be afraid to ask for feedback; it's a sign of your commitment to growth. Take Initiative: Take initiative at work by identifying problems and proposing solutions. Show your dedication and enthusiasm for your role by going the extra mile. Being proactive and demonstrating leadership qualities can lead to recognition and advancement. Maintain Work-Life Balance: While it's important to be ambitious in your career, don't forget to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Burnout can hinder your progress, so prioritize self-care, time with loved ones, and activities that rejuvenate you. Stay Updated on Industry Trends: Stay informed about the latest industry trends, news, and developments. Subscribe to relevant publications, follow influential thought leaders on social media, and participate in discussions. Being well-informed positions you as an industry expert. Celebrate Achievements: Lastly, don't forget to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. Recognize your progress and acknowledge your hard work. Celebrating milestones can boost your motivation and keep you on the path to career success. Advancing in your career doesn't happen overnight; it's a journey that requires dedication, continuous learning, and strategic planning. By setting clear goals, developing essential skills, networking, and embracing challenges, you can take incremental steps toward achieving your career aspirations. Remember that success is a result of consistent effort and perseverance. So, take it one step at a time, and you'll be well on your way to a fulfilling and successful career. [headlines] The federal government is once again offering free COVID test kits. When it opens in September, you can order up to four kits per household at COVIDTests.gov. All for free. Shipping is free, too. Just give a name and shipping address. Sharing your email is optional if you’d like to get confirmation and delivery updates from the U.S. Postal Service. Anyone who asks for more information than that is a scammer. You don’t need to give financial information or pay anything to get these free tests, and nobody can promise you special access or extra tests. If they do, they’re scammers. To avoid scammers impersonating the federal government:
One thing to know: the expiration date for many kits has changed. Before you throw away a kit because the expiration date on the package has passed, go to the FDA’s website to see if that kit’s expiration date has been extended. [headlines] #### Press Release ########################

[headlines] Watch at Home Though many younger audiences may know him best for his sonorous voicework in blockbusters like “Star Wars” and “The Lion King,” James Earl Jones (1931-2024) enjoyed an illustrious career on film and stage. So check out our list for some of this powerful actor’s finest performances. The Great White Hope (1970): Jones earned a Best Actor Oscar nomination for his compelling performance in this screen adaptation of Howard Sackler’s Pulitzer-winning play, directed by Martin Ritt (“Sounder”). Jones plays Jack Jefferson, a Black boxer in the 1910s whose winning streak has the press looking for a white opponent that will defeat him, i.e., the Great White Hope. His greatest fight takes place not in the ring but within himself, as he confronts prejudice from the sports world as well as his own community when he courts a white woman, Eleanor Bachman (Jane Alexander). Their love grows poisoned by these toxic sentiments, leading to tragedy. Offering a fierce portrait of an intelligent man raging against oppressive limits, Jones uses his voice as commandingly as his body. Claudine (1974): Jones showcases his gentle, dashing charm opposite a vibrant, Oscar-nominated Diahann Carroll in this fresh comedy-drama, set in Harlem. Carroll portrays the eponymous heroine, a single mother of six making ends meet by working as a maid in upper-scale suburbs. It’s there that she meets a charming garbage collector named Roop Marshall (Jones), and a romance quickly blooms. Despite their chemistry together, a fear of responsibility gradually forces them apart, threatening the fragility of domestic happiness. While maintaining a bright, cheery tone, the movie, directed by socially conscious veteran John Berry (“He Ran All the Way”), scarcely sugarcoats the hardships a single Black mother must face on a daily basis. Combining perseverance with humor and grit, it deserves to be rediscovered by modern viewers Matewan (1987): Alternating studio productions with indie projects, Jones teamed up with acclaimed director John Sayles (“Lone Star”) for this inspiring, fact-based drama, which chronicles the lives of coal miners in 1920 in the titular West Virginia town. As the workers scramble to form their own union to secure their rights, company bosses hire scabs to keep them under control. Black and Italian miners are brought in to break through the strike, among them “Few Clothes” Johnson (Jones), who’s ordered to murder labor organizer Joe Kenehan (Chris Cooper). After hearing Kenehan’s stories, however, Johnson decides instead to help him by pulling the workers together in the struggle for rights. With a cast that also includes Mary McDonnell and David Strathairn, this is a robust, evocative account of hope during conflict. Coming to America (1988): Before “The Lion King,” Jones portrayed an African monarch in this enjoyable blockbuster, which gave him a chance to play comedy as majestically as he could play drama. Eddie Murphy stars as Akeem, the pampered crown prince of the fictious country of Zamunda. About to enter an arranged marriage, he instead heads to New York City with his royal sidekick (Arsenio Hall), where he hides his identity while searching for a woman who will be his queen for love rather than riches. He falls for a beautiful woman named Lisa (Shari Headley), but their blossoming romance is jeopardized by a surprise visit from Akeem’s strict father, King Jaffe (Jones). Reuniting Murphy with “Trading Places” director John Landis, this is an irreverent update of an oft-told tale. A Family Thing (1996): Jones gave one of his finest later performances in this poignant, underrated comedy-drama, sharing the screen with a fellow lion of American cinema, Robert Duvall. Duvall plays Earl Pitcher Jr., an Arkansas man who’s shaken to learn that his late mother was a Black woman. Hoping to learn about his family roots, he travels to Chicago and meets his half-brother, Roy Murdock (Jones). When Roy refuses to get to know Earl, it’s up to their blind, outspoken aunt (Irma P. Hall, in a scene-stealing performance) to act as mediator and help them overcome their differences. Directed by Richard Pearce (“Heartland”) from a screenplay co-written by Billy Bob Thornton, this is a warm, earnest sleeper that overcomes its own predictability thanks to the heartfelt rapport of the veteran actors.
