NVLA Cancels 2024 Conference Due to Hurricane Milton

Menomonee Falls, Wis. – The National Vehicle Leasing Association (NVLA), the leading advocate for the vehicle leasing industry, has announced the cancellation of its 2024 Annual Conference due to the impact of Hurricane Milton. The event, originally planned for October 16-18 in Clearwater Beach, Florida, has been called off to ensure the safety of all attendees.

“With the ongoing situation in Clearwater Beach and concerns for the safety and well-being of our attendees, the NVLA Board of Directors has made the difficult decision to cancel this year’s conference,” said NVLA President Tarry Shebesta. “Our thoughts are with the Clearwater Beach community, and everyone affected by this devastating storm.”

NVLA expresses its gratitude to all members, registrants, sponsors, and vendors for their support of the 2024 Annual Conference and the association.

“We had an excellent lineup of speakers, sessions, and events planned,” Shebesta continued. “We are actively exploring alternative ways to deliver this valuable content to our members and the industry.”

The NVLA will continue to keep its members and conference participants informed of any updates through its communication channels and website, www.nvla.org.

About NVLA

Founded in 1968, NVLA provides educational opportunities, promotes responsible legislation and communicates with members regarding developments and trends in vehicle leasing. NVLA promotes the leasing concept while encouraging the highest ethical and professional standards. Focus
By Scott Wheeler, CLFP

Top originators in the commercial equipment finance and leasing industry focus on those vendors and end-users that align with the services that the originator currently provides. Conversely, average originators that are struggling are spending their time chasing prospects and transactions that are not aligned. Therefore, I suggest sales teams and individual originators to:

  • Define the characteristics of the perfect vendor and end-user. Solicit vendors and end-users that meet those characteristics. Qualify prospects early and often.

  • Focus on the "right" vendors and end-users. Stop wasting time with transactions that cannot be approved and funded. There is plenty of business in the market.

  • Rank your prospects, rank your pipeline, and spend your time with those opportunities which will produce the greatest results. Not all relationships or transactions are equal.

  • Know your position within the market and aggressively sell your products based upon that position. Do not shy away from competition. If you are soliciting business which aligns with your capabilities and value proposition, then it is your responsibility to outsell and outperform any competition.

  • Sell with confidence.

  • Have a plan to build a database of prospects that align with your capabilities.

  • Have an efficient marketing plan to increase your production and personal income with strong transactions.

  • Always focus on transactions that protect the viability and long-term sustainability of your company, your funders, and your investors.

There are unlimited opportunities in the market for originators who focused on success.

Watch at Home
by Fernando Croce, Leasing News Movie Reviewer

The latest batch of streaming releases offers a wide variety of moods, including ghoulish zaniness ("Beetlejuice Beetlejuice"), offbeat humor ("Between the Temples"), compassionate drama ("Green Border"), visceral suspense ("Rebel Ridge"), and crowd-pleasing comedy ("Thelma").

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (Amazon Prime, Apple TV): “The Ghost with the Most” is back in this high-spirited sequel to the spooky-zany 1988 hit, which reunites director Tim Burton with the exuberant Michael Keaton. Checking in on the Deetz family nearly three decades since last time, the story finds psychic Lydia (Winona Ryder) still haunted by the titular supernatural trickster (Keaton), who now runs a business in the netherworld. Struggling with her estranged daughter (Jenna Ortega), Lydia grudgingly summons up Beetlejuice, who proceeds to cut a gleeful swath between the realms of the living and the dead. Giving free rein to his imagination, Burton serves up gags that pop like cartoon firecrackers. Aided by a hilarious cast that includes Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe and Danny DeVito, this is his most joyous film in years.

Between the Temples (Amazon Prime, Apple TV): The underrated Carol Kane gets a deserved showcase in this offbeat comedy-drama from acerbic indie filmmaker Nathan Silver. Ben (Jason Schwartzman) is a New York City cantor who, suffering from depression after the death of his wife, becomes unable to sing at the local synagogue. There isn’t much help from his two mothers (Caroline Aaron, Dolly De Leon), who keep setting him up on unwanted dates, or from his rabbi (Robert Smigel), who prefers golfing. An unlikely ray of sunshine comes in the shape of Carla (Kane), a widow in her sixties who insists that Ben help her prepare for her belated Bat Mitzvah. What follows is a madcap portrait of friendship and recovery, attuned to the eccentric comic rapport between the terrific leads.

Green Border (Amazon Prime, Apple TV): Veteran Polish director Agnieszka Holland (“Europa Europa”) offers a compassionate snapshot of the European refugee crisis with this devastating drama. Based on real events, the story follows a group of Middle Eastern and African travelers in Belarus, hoping to cross the border into Poland and the safety they were promised. The focus is on a Syrian family (Mohamad Al Rashi, Jalal Altawil, Dalia Naous) and an Afghan teacher (Behi Djanati Atai), as they seek shelter but find themselves stuck as pawns in a political game and at the mercy of cruel guards. Their lives intertwine with a therapist (Maja Ostaszewska), who’s become an activist after witnessing the horrors experienced by migrants. Brimming with intelligent anger, Holland’s film is an urgent call for humanism. With subtitles.

Rebel Ridge (Netflix): A specialist in tasty mayhem, director Jeremy Saulnier (“Green Room”) brings on the brutal goods for this robust police thriller, which often plays like a Western in modern-day guise. Set in a fictional town in rural Louisiana where corruption is widespread in law enforcement, the story follows Terry Richmond (Aaron Pierre), a former Marine with a bag of money to post his cousin’s bail. When the cash is confiscated by the pair of cops who were harassing him, Terry attempts to seek justice with their boss (Don Johnson), only to learn he’s as crooked as them. With the help of a court assistant named Summer (AnnaSophia Robb), he must confront increasingly aggressive foes. Both kinetic and thoughtful, Saulnier’s latest engrosses with provocative issues and visceral action.

Thelma (Apple TV, iTunes): A serious topic launches a delightful movie in this disarming charmer, which marks the debut of director Josh Margolin while giving center stage to veteran actress June Squibb. Squibb plays 93-year-old Thelma Post, a Los Angeles widow who one day gets a phone call from a scammer posing as her grandson, Danny (Fred Hechinger). When she realizes that she’s been duped out of $10,000, she decides to get the money back with the help of her friend, Ben (Richard Rountree). Determined to take down the scamming operation run by an antique store owner (Malcolm McDowell), Thelma drives around town on a moped while followed by a concerned couple (Clark Gregg, Parker Posey). Mixing touching relationships with feisty humor, the movie is a genuine crowd-pleaser.
