[headlines] Rosanne Wilson, CLFP, Memorial Scholarship AACFB is pleased to announce that the AACFB scholarship will now be known as the Rosanne Wilson Memorial Scholarship, in honor of the former AACFB Treasurer, Membership Committee Chair, and long-time supporter of NAELB/AACFB. She was very active in the founding of the Certified Leasing Foundation, an original member of the Leasing News Advisory Board as well as a contributing writer on meetings and conferences for Leasing News. She was a very good friend to many in the industry. Rosanne passed away in 2022 after a long illness but her impact on the association and all who knew her continues. She was a constant presence at conferences and mentored countless aspiring finance brokers, reflecting her deep commitment to education. This scholarship will stand as a tribute to her remarkable service to the association and the commercial finance industry. In October of 2020, AACFB announced its new scholarship program, open to high school seniors and students attending a trade or technical school in addition to those attending a two or four-year institution of higher learning. Since then, thousands of scholarship dollars have been awarded to deserving young students across the country. In 2025, AACFB will once again be awarding scholarships with $3,500 going to the first-place winner and $1,500 going to the runner-up. Applications are now being accepted for the 2025 Rosanne Wilson Memorial Scholarship. The deadline is December 15, 2024. https://conta.cc/3XE2ln3 To apply, students must be recommended by an active member of the AACFB. The student must complete the scholarship application and provide an essay demonstrating need and the ability to complete the course of study chosen as well as supply two letters of recommendation. The winners will be announced by March 1, 2025. Part of their advice included the assumption that senior executives always wanted to grow their businesses. While this seems logical, sometimes it simply isn’t true. Here’s an example from a friend who occupied a high-level position in a large corporation’s accounting department. He was part of a team that presented a business case for an acquisition to the CEO. The accounting executives viewed the opportunity as a once-in-a-lifetime chance to acquire a company that would help them leapfrog the competition and establish their company as the industry leader for decades. He told me that he was more than a little surprised and frustrated when the CEO ignored most of the information presented. It became obvious that the CEO just wasn’t interested in the recommendation. It turned out that the CEO planned to retire the next year. No matter how much his company would benefit, he had zero interest in devoting the time and hard work an acquisition requires. Instead of viewing the opportunity as a win for him, he viewed it as a loss, a potential crimp in his plans for a smooth transition into retirement. There are many other situations where growth isn’t a strategic priority for senior executives. For example, a company with wildly accelerating growth in sales and experiencing cash flow issues because of poor collection habits, should spur the company’s CEO to reign in growth until the cash management issues are solved. It’s too easy for sales professionals to assume that CEOs and other senior executives are always focused on growth. Some CEOs may decide that growing sales to a large group of unprofitable customers is a one-way ticket to bankruptcy court. Before assuming that a CEO or group of senior executives is always focused on growth, take the time to research and find out precisely what it is that they want to accomplish, fix, or avoid.
