Leasing News has this company on our Bulletin Board as having received
complaints for holding advance rentals, on some large leases, too. We
asked readers for help.

THE TEL # IN USA TODAY IS 800-577-6577
it may be the same Parker Leasing that advertises daily in the classified
section of USA....last conversation with them was years ago...they wanted to
charge an upfront and then would get all your leases funded...they must get
takers because the ad has been running every day for the last 5+ years

Bob Parker worked in Florida with two people in his office, and his brother
Gary works out of another state. They are super brokers and lease
trainers. When I started, I responded to an ad in the newspaper to
become a lease broker. It was supposed to be two day training
for $8,000. I paid for it up front. My wife and I were there for
two days. The first day was about 90 minutes of training,
and the second day was 60 to 90 minutes. It was supposed to
be for two days, and I asked for my money back. He said he
would hook me up with funding sources to make up for the training
I did not receive. He never delivered on that either. He wanted
me to send everything to him to place. I never did business with them.

Parker Leasing is not a funding source. I think they used Bob and Eric
Castro FTA Funding, who have now changed name, but advertise in the Monitor.

One of the brothers opened an office as Granite, and it was closed up after
problems faxing and telemarketing for deals.

Our research indicates this is the same person who we have
received complaints about keeping large advance rental
deposits. There is also something about being located in
Florida and somehow that gives better protection as law
enforcement has their hands full.

Several funding sources say they will not do business
with Parker Leasing, but do not want to go on the record,
and it appears Parker Leasing is not a funder or discounter
of record at any major funding source that we have
contacted.

Here are more responses from our readers:

I'm not at all sure if this would be the same company, but I
believe I am correct in recalling Parker Leasing ads in USA
Today a year or so ago -- offering to teach international
lease techniques.

I called the 800#, got a Mr. Parker, 85-yr old man at the time, claiming
for roughly $7,000 would teach and mentor to become international lease
brokers.

He'd mentioned that rates were immaterial in developing countries,
sky's the limit. Why settle for $1500 to $3000 per deal when
you can make $100,000? When I mentioned I'd rather not drop
$7k into something I know nothing about, I do remember his
parting shot: "If you don't have the money, I'm surprised you
called at all."

By the way, there is a Parker running ads CURRENTLY in the
BIZOP section of USA Today --- sorry I didn't get back to you sooner.

I enjoy (and benefit from) your publication!

I have been reading about Parker Leasing and having flashbacks.
Twenty-five years ago there was a Parker Leasing in Ft. Lauderdale
run by Paul Parker. He advertised in the Wall Street Journal and
other papers offering to train people in the leasing business. I think
he was getting around $10,000 or whatever the traffic would bear.
Over the years I have run into people who took his "training" and all
they got for their money was a list of funding sources. I know this
because we somehow got on that list and would get calls from the
rookie brokers with deals that had no chance of ever getting done.
My guess is that the people you are writing about are Paul Parker's
offspring and they are using the same scam. I don't know what you
call the business that they are in but it isn't leasing.

I wanted to respond about recent questions about Parker
Leasing. This company, particularly Paul Parker, are bad news.
They offer to train brokers to get in the leasing business
for 9995.00 but I have known them to take 1500.00.
We have had several people attend our school after Parkers
and the stories are incredible. One of his attendees gave
me his 3 ring binder that was all they got for their investment.
It is a hunk of junk but worse it shows how to split deals
and many other unethical practices as thoughthey are the accepted
and normal practices. Much of the tax and accounting information
is totally incorrect.

In 1996 I was forced to begin legal action against him. We
both had ads in USA Today. He was telling people that asked him
about our ad and Wildwood that I had been in prison for leasing
fraud, had never been in the business, knew nothing about leasing,
that he never heard of a Certified Lease Professinal, etc, etc.

I have been told by several major sources that they cut Parker
off years ago. I believe what has happened recently since his
reputation is so bad here in the US as most major players know
he is now trying to sell the international leasing scheme.

I recall an instance where you reported last year that he
had kept something like 46,000 of a lessees money when he
could not get a deal approved. If memory serves Barry MARKS
OR Joe Bonnano got very involved.

If any one runs in to Parker watch out!!

Dear Mr. Menkin!

Thanks for your information. It really looks to become a scandal. I also
heard that there are investigations against Parker Leasing by the Police
Department in Fort Lauderdale (Detective Ron Hood).

Thanks and best regards
