Found Larry Grant!!! I
have not looked at Leasing News in a while; so this morning when a
friend told me I had made the headlines, I was afraid my sordid past had
caught up with me. When I found out that he was referring to a "Where's
Larry Grant" item in Leasing News, I thought it might be good to
announce my new position. Transportation
Alliance Bank (TAB) recently experienced a major management
change, with several senior officers leaving for better opportunities,
and the bank redirecting its activities to the trucking industry
exclusively. I
have joined TAB's former President, who moved over to another Utah bank.
I have been asked to form an equipment leasing group at Centennial Bank
of Ogden, Utah. We will be a direct funder of equipment leases
from $15k
to $1 million; accepting broker-referred business on a national basis.
Cindy Phelps, Documentation Manager, has also joined us from TAB. We
will be issuing press releases and initial marketing materials in the next
few weeks. I
appreciate the concern for my whereabouts, and look forward to renewing
contact with all of the wonderful people in the leasing industry.

“Messenger” in Microsoft Operating Software Radio
and TV is telling everyone about a “worm” making the rounds. To those in the know, it has been prevalent
for quite some
time. Most anti-virus programs
are prepared to thwart it in
their latest up-grade. I know
PC-cillin is. Plus in the Microsoft
Windows Up-Grade they have the patch in their
“Critical up-grade” install and review.
What they don’t
have, and don’t tell you about it, is how it may be delivered
by hackers right through the Microsoft messenger. This
is advice for single, or multi-users who’s ISP manager does not use
this feature. If you are on a
network, see your ISP manager or consultant. You
may not have the rights to make the change, but your ISP can make
the change for you. There
is no harm in following this advice, except it may be an inconvenience to
your ISP administrator, if they use it, which I really doubt that many
do. If
you are running a Windows operating system, your computer may be accessed with
messages not only from Microsoft, but others.
If you see messages that come
up, and you wonder how they got through the firewall, it most likely is
because you are allowing messages to be received. It
is one way that Microsoft and your network administrator have set up
to contact you, and others know about it, especially hackers. The
best thing to do is to “disable” it. You
can do this by going to “Settings,” then to “Control Panel,” then to
“Administrative Tools,” then to “Services.” When
you open “Services,” scroll down to “messenger.” Click on the icon,
and choose “Disable.” You may
“choose” manual, if you like. I
chose “Disable.” This
feature was originally set up for “administrators” to send messages
to work stations users. It is another means of spamming your computer,
and perhaps even, causing other problems with false information that
appears from the administrator or warning from your computer. Often
these announcements from Microsoft are not only advertisements, but
may affect other running programs. If
you are working a network workstation, talk to your ISP as you may
not have the “rights” to make the changes, plus your system may
be set up to disable these “messengers” messages. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Cartoon--- http://www.two.leasingnews.org/cartoons/humpty.jpg ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Millennium

Press Release ####################################### Fitch
Risk Advisory Launches Internal Ratings Validation Service Fitch
Ratings-New York- Fitch Risk has launched a new Internal Ratings Validation
Service that will help financial services firms validate and enhance
their internal credit ratings practices in line with emerging risk management
and regulatory standards. With regulatory recognition for the use of
internal credit ratings growing, firms are seeking external validation
of their ratings processes and methodologies. By leveraging proprietary
credit ratings models and years of credit rating experience, Fitch Risk's
Internal Ratings Validation Service provides firms with the information
they need to evaluate and develop internal ratings processes. 'With
many institutions looking to qualify for the Internal Ratings-Based
Approach (IRB) of The New Basel Capital Accord (BASEL II), banks are
seeking independent benchmarks for their internal ratings that do not
force firms to adopt a single credit risk methodology,' said Christopher
Lewis, Managing Director, Fitch Risk Advisory. 'This new service provides
firms with an industry-proven standard for evaluating the performance
of their ratings processes that is, in all aspects, independent and
methodology-neutral.' Fitch
Risk's Internal Ratings Validation Service provides firms with both
a qualitative assessment of their overall ratings processes, data, and
methodologies and a quantitative benchmark of their internal ratings
results. The Internal Ratings Validation Service leverages Fitch Risk's
CRS and supporting ratings models to provide industry-proven issuer
ratings for a representative sample of each client's portfolio. CRS
is a suite of proprietary models marketed by Fitch Risk's CreditVantage
brand. Benchmarking
services are provided for a variety of obligor and transaction types,
including corporates, financial institutions, utilities, small-to-medium
sized enterprises (SMEs), real estate facilities, and project finance
structures. At the completion of the analysis, Fitch Risk provides each
firm with a validation study outlining our observations of the firm's
ratings framework and the results of our quantitative evaluation, along
with recommended improvements. About

the realm of enterprise, credit and operational risk. Fitch Risk is

Press Release ###################################### ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Home-Equity
Values Poised to Drop ABSNet---- An
expected flood of new issues should cause spreads on home-equity-loan
securities to widen in the near future. Because
virtually every regular issuer of home-equity bonds is scheduled to
tap the securitization market over the next six weeks or so, competition
for investors is likely to be fierce. Many buysiders have already had
their fill of mortgage-related products - meaning that issuers will
have to serve up fatter returns if they want to drum up interest in
their deals. It's
tough to pinpoint exactly when the values of home-equity bonds will
fall, but many market players point to the end of September as a likely
timeframe. For the next few weeks, however, spreads should remain fairly
stable. When
spreads do widen, they'll probably jump by 5-10 bp. For the past month
or so, home-equity issuers' funding costs haven't changed much, with
the three-year senior portions of fixed-rate deals hovering around 40
bp over swaps. Spreads on comparable floaters have widened by just 1
bp since early July, to 32 bp over Libor, according to Banc One. Buysiders
have already snapped up $68 billion of home-equity offerings this year,
up from about $55 billion during the year-earlier period, according
to Asset-Backed Alert's ABS Database. Other factors may also drive spreads
higher. For
starters, rising interest rates are curtailing the home-refinancing
boom that has propelled issuance of mortgage-related ABS this year.
Faced with a diminishing supply of new loan applications, some home-equity
lenders will start reaching out to shakier borrowers. Realizing this,
buysiders may start to demand juicier returns on the securities those
companies issue. Meanwhile,
a broader bond sell-off is saturating the market with available securities.
Traders reported that large bid lists continued to pop up in the secondary
asset-backed market this week, including one that topped $1.6 billion.
Home-equity loans collateralized a good number of the securities that
were offered, along with products backed by credit-card receivables
and auto loans. "Some people are re-allocating, selling the really
liquid stuff," in favor of new paper with better yields, said Dan
Castro, who oversees structured-finance research at Merrill Lynch. That's
especially true in the home-equity sector, where some investors are
unloading top-rated bonds issued one or two years ago. They are turning
around and buying similar new issues at wider spreads - and capturing
a hefty profit in the process, said Peter DiMartino, RBS Greenwich Capital's
ABS-research chief. "There's good money-market demand for one-year
home equities," he said. "Investors can pocket some gains
because there's so much new supply." The
burst in new-issue volume won't be confined to the home-equity sector.
As usual, credit-card lenders will keep issuing at a rapid pace. Auto
lenders are also expected to issue more heavily, while the collateralized
debt obligation sector experiences a sizable up tick in activity. Merrill
Lynch's underwriting unit has several collateralized debt obligations
in the pipeline, including a resecuritization of structured products
for Pacific Investment Management of Newport Beach, Calif. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Free

by the act of the Continental Congress.
The act offered American citizenship to British and Hessian deserters

unappropriated land in certain states. On August 27, 1776, a similar act was passed
to encourage officers in the British forces to desert. 1846-Henry David Thoreau is jailed for tax resistance. (more about

Smith led 10,000 troops out of Knoxville, Tennessee, on August 14 and
moved toward the Cumberland Gap—the first step in the Confederate invasion
of Kentucky. After a Federal force evacuated the pass in the face of
the invasion, Smith continued north. On August 30, he encountered a
more significant force at Richmond, Kentucky. In a decisive battle,
the Confederates routed the Yankees and captured most of the 6,000-man

He wrote a series of comic ballads for the San Francisco Examiner,
of which “Casey at the Bat” was the last.
It was published and he

William DeWolf Hopper greatly increased is popularity. It is said that
by 1900 there were few Americans who had not heard of “Casey at the
Bat.” Died at Santa Barbara, CA, August 21, 1940. 1883-Birthday
of African-American Ernest E. Just, American marine biologist, pioneer
of cell division, born at Charleston,
SC. He was the first recipient of the NAACP’s Spingarn
Medal and was a professor at Howard University from 1907 to 1941, where
he was head of physiology at the medical school(1912-20) and head of
zoology(1912-41). He died October 27, 1941, at Washington, DC. 1900-After a siege of
nearly two months, troops from the US ( Marines), Great Britain, France,
Russia, Germany and Japan reached Peking and put down the Box Rebellion.
Bitter antagonism against all foreigners in China broke into
open warfare when a nationalist group, the Boxers, occupied Peking on
June 20 and besieged members
of the diplomatic corps, their families, and others in the British legation.
The Boxers wanted to rid China of all foreigners.
Under pressure from the U.S., the other powers agreed not to
partition China further. On September
7, 1901, China and eleven other nations signed the Boxer Protocol, by
which China agreed to pay 4333,000,000 in indemnity. The U.S. Received

a side note, US Senators/Congressmen do not pay into Social Security,

They felt they should have a special plan. When they retire no

Navajo Code Talkers Day. Coded
military radio transmissions using aNative American language began in
1942, when the Allied and Axis
powers were competing to devise communications codes that could not
be deciphered by the enemy. Philip Johnston, a missionary’s son who had grown-up on the Navajo
reservation, proposed the idea of using the Navajo language, a complicated
system in which the meaning of a word is often determined by expression
and pronunciation. Marine Major
General Clayton B. Vogel approved the plan and recruited 420 Navajo
“ code talkers” to handle coded radio communications in the Pacific
theater. the codes combined everyday Navajo words with about 400 special
terms made up by the code talkers. Members of other tribes were employed
as well. The Japanese were aware of the Navajo codes, but never broke
them. They were kept top secret until 1968. 1984 - IBM released
